Journal is a personal blog. You can read every article without an account.

Quiz submissions

When you select Check answers, we send your answers to the server and store them with your score, the article and question version, the submission time, and whether you used Try again. These statistics help identify confusing questions and improve the articles.

Each submission has a random ID to prevent duplicate records if a request is retried. It does not identify you or connect your separate attempts. The quiz records contain no name, email address, IP address, or browser information. Quiz submissions are sent without cookies. Records currently have no automatic deletion schedule.

Browser preferences

Your light or dark theme preference is saved in your browser’s local storage. You can remove it by clearing this site’s browser data. Journal does not use advertising trackers or visitor analytics scripts.

Hosting and external content

Hosting infrastructure may process technical request information, including IP addresses, to deliver the site and operate the service. This is separate from the quiz records described above.

To limit excessive quiz submissions, the app temporarily keeps request counts in memory. These expire within two minutes and are never saved with quiz records. No cookie or permanent visitor ID is used for these limits.

Following an external link, loading external media, or choosing to load an embedded service sends requests to that provider, whose privacy practices apply to those requests.
